With a sense of calm confidence and easy grace way beyond her years, it is hard to believe Hanli Hoefer is only 26 years old. Yet she already has two successful and fulfilling careers in modelling and TV hosting.
The 1.78m tall Chinese-German brunette was born and raised in Singapore where she studied English, Art and Psychology in United World College, graduating with an International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma. At 19 years old, Hanli started modelling and was cover girl of ‘Her World’ less than a year later. Over the following year, she modelled full-time, walking high fashion shows and gracing the covers of Nylon, Her World, Shape and Seventeen as well as being an ambassador for L’Officiel Singapore.
In 2012, eager for a new challenge, she auditioned and won the regional MTV search for a host competition. Hanli spent the next five years at MTV as the main presenter for MTV Asia and traveled around South-East Asia interviewing some of the world’s biggest music acts and fronting the MTV Show as well as the flagship ‘World Stage’ events. Hanli has interviewed hundreds of high-profile individuals and collectives ranging from musicians, DJs, F1 drivers right through to politicians. Prior to each interview she does her own thoughtful and in-depth research on her subject’s background. With her confident, easy-going conversation style, it is clear Hanli has mastered the craft of presenting.
One of Hanli’s biggest passions is her love for travel that has followed her throughout her MTV career. She will always take a day to herself after shoots abroad to explore the city. She conducts extensive research on destinations, taking her cues from websites, blogs and documentaries to uncover authentic culinary, nature, creative and active experiences in the places she visits. From dining at Gaggan in Bangkok that inspired her when she saw it featured on Netflix's ‘Chef’s Table’, to the laid-back vibe of night markets in Taipei, to climbing Koko Head Crater in Honolulu.
Hanli’s independent free spirit comes from her parents whom she cites as inspirational figures. Her father founded travel guidebooks Insight Guides, and her mother is a fashion editor, stylist and writer. Hanli regularly goes to Sri Lanka where her parents have a villa business, and to her mother’s organic farm in Nepal. Her favourite cities are Bangkok, London, NYC, Singapore, Amsterdam and Shanghai. A lover of adventures, she cites rural China as next on her hit list. Hanli’s travel posts are some of the most popular with close to 42,000 Instagram fans who no doubt appreciate the glimpse into her everyday life, with a raw, humorous and authentic touch.
Hanli’s other interests include music, healthy-lifestyle, cooking, yoga and decorating.
